Compiling our files!

In this lesson of EGD, Mr. Cheo taught us how to compile our files for submission for our group project. This is extremely important as if the instructions are not carefully followed, it may result in confusion and the marker may get irritated )-:

 

Alright so basically, a book file is a collection of documents that can share styles, swatches, master pages, and other items. You can sequentially number pages in booked documents, print selected documents in a book, or export them to PDF. One document can belong to multiple book files!

 

One of the documents added to a book file is the style source. By default, the style source is the first document in the book, but you can select a new style source at any time. When you synchronize documents in a book, the specified styles and swatches from the style source replace those in other booked documents.

 

Here is the step-by-step process you’ll have to follow to do just that!

STEP 1: Choose file>new>book

STEP 2: Type a name for the book, specify a location, and then click Save. The Book panel appears. The book file is saved with the file name “.indb” extension

STEP 3: Add documents to the book file.

When you create a book file, it opens in the Book panel. The Book panel is the working area of a book file, where you add, remove, or rearrange documents.

STEP 4: Choose Add Document in the Book panel menu, or click the plus button at the bottom of the Book panel.

STEP 5: Select the Adobe InDesign document or documents you want to add, and then click Open.

  1. You can drag and drop files onto the Book panel from an Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac OS) window. You can also drag a document from one book to another. Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) to copy the document.
  2. If necessary, change the order of the documents in the panel by dragging them up or down to the appropriate locations in the list.

 


 

To save the book itself, EXPORT BOOK TO PDF in the book panel menu.

  1. To create a PDF of documents within a book, select the document or documents in the Book panel, and choose “Export Selected Documents To PDFin the Book panel menu.
  2. Specify a name and location for the PDF file, and then click Save

 

Reiteration 

You have to package all our stuff for submission, if not everything will be messed up! 

Saving the files is really similar to that of adobe illustrator.

 If I package it instructions is given as well, and I would just have to follow the name of the final book folder. –save it in the folder you remember.

 and after you’re done just go to your desktop, and the folder will already be packaged nicely for you!

 when you open it up, everything will already be there. Fonts, texts etc. for submission you just have to submit the compilation folder.

When you open up final book, all the marker is going to see is the final book itself, allowing them ease in marking.

 Lastly, we have to attach onto the folder which page is done by who. 

OR

one can just name the indesign file directly as my name.

 

Submit PDF file as a package and you’re done! 🙂
